Description

What a windy day we had in Te puru, even though it was nice and sunny on the beach the teams had some really challenging conditions to overcome. I would like to thank the teams coaches and managers for understanding the course change so that we could still get the teams out racing on the water. Attached are some photos and the race results.

Te Puru showcased another sunny day of racing but unfortunately this year the wind gust made the race course challenging for everyone. Predictions were showing that the wind would drop and spin around to an easterly which would keep the course nice and sheltered by the hills. But this was not to be.

Rotorua Boys Manaaki Te Kowhai was first overall in race 1. The 4km course proved difficult for many with the tricky winds. Inamaru Tere from Waitakere College was the first female home finishing ahead of most of the field. It was great to see Huntly college out on the W3 as this is the first time we have included W3 racing.

Winds did not seem to be changing and the call to change the race course from 8km to 2km had to be made. Even though the course was short, it was still very challenging for all teams with everyone finishing with smiles. Huntly mixed were the first team back in a time of 17.35

Race 3 was a close race between Rotorua Boys and Kelston boys battling all the way. Rotorua boys came into the beach just ahead and out run Kelston up the beach to the finishline.

Well done to all the teams that participated. The future is in good hands with all these young athletes doing so well.
