2017 IVF World Distance Championships, Tahiti

The following is the broad outline of the New Zealand selection process for the 2017 IVF World Distance Championships:

The addition of the new IVF World Distance Championships is exciting for our sport and provides Waka Ama New Zealand with new and exciting opportunities.

With the success of our National teams at the recent IVF World Elite Championships - Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa, Waka Ama New Zealand will implement a coach driven and paddler focused selection process for the Inaugural 2017 World Distance Championship.

The event allows us to enter the following teams:

1 x Master Mens'   Team
1 x Open Mens' Team
1 x Junior 19
Development Mens' Team

1 x Master Womens'   Team
1 x Open Womens' Team
1 x Junior 19
Development Womens' Team


With this focus in mind Waka Ama New Zealand will be seeking applicants for the following (6) six positions:

·            National  Coach – Master Men

·            National  Coach – Open Men

·            National  Coach – Junior 19 Development Men

·            National  Coach – Master Women

·            National  Coach – Open Women

·            National  Coach – Junior 19 Development Women

 

Coach position descriptions and application forms will be advertised and available on the Waka Ama NZ Website at the beginning of August and applications will close at the end of August.

The Waka Ama New Zealand Worlds Management Committee will be appointing the National Coach positions. The Worlds Management Committee will also provide selection oversight throughout the process and will support National Coaches in pursuit of the campaign goals.  

Coaches will be appointed by the 16th September

Following Coach appointments Managers will also be appointed for each team and position descriptions for Managers will be provided to Coaches.

A meeting of all appointed National Coaches and Managers for 2017 will take place in Tauranga on Sunday 2nd October.

Information regarding the Individual paddler selection process will be announced in October.

It is our aspiration to provide a quality pathway for both our elite athletes, coaches and Managers.

And it Is our goal for every national team to medal at this World Championship Event.
