Waka Ama NZ Covid-19 Event Policy - Updated 24 March 2022
Waka Ama New Zealand has revised the following Covid-19 Event Policy in relation to the updated New Zealand Government Covid-19 Protection Framework currently in place in Aotearoa.
Our priority, first and foremost, is the health of our waka ama community. This policy is designed to keep our waka ama whānau including our employees, contractors, members, participants, volunteers and our wider waka ama whānau safe from Covid-19.
This policy is aligned with the updated New Zealand Government Covid-19 Protection Framework, Work Safe Aotearoa and is aligned with the values of our organisation.
Waka Ama NZ Events
From 11:59 pm Monday 4th April 2022 under the NZ Government Covid-19 Protection Framework (CPF), vaccine passes are no longer a requirement for any Waka Ama event.
Attendee number restrictions are determined by the NZ Government CPF and the traffic light setting of the region your event will take place in. You must refer to the NZ Government Traffic Lights Map.
As of 11:59 pm Friday 25th March 2022 there are no longer any outdoor capacity limits for events.
The following capacity limits apply to indoor settings (i.e. indoor prizegiving, after event function etc.):
Setting Red can have 200 attendees.
Setting Orange can have unlimited attendees.
Setting Green can have unlimited attendees.
Covid-19 Protection Framework Measures
The following applies to all Events:
It is compulsory for all Waka Ama NZ sanctioned events to use the Waka Ama NZ Online Entry System. Use of this is included in your sanctioning fee.
It is compulsory for clubs to add all participants into the online entry system within the specified time frame. Failure to do so will result in teams being withdrawn from the event.
Facemasks requirements apply to indoor settings only:
Red - Facemasks required in most indoor settings
Orange - Face masks required in many indoor settings
Green - Face masks encouraged indoors
Event organisers should promote best hygiene practice.
Sanctioning / Approval
All event hosts seeking sanctioning or approval for their Event must complete the following documents as per the usual Waka Ama NZ sanctioning/approval process:

Due to the changing environment, this policy will be closely monitored by the Waka Ama NZ CEO, who along with the Waka Ama NZ staff, will take responsibility for managing the organisation's Covid-19 policies, reviewing and updating this policy and risk assessment as needed in consultation with Waka Ama NZ’s Board. A formal review of this policy will occur in six months’ time but may be amended sooner as circumstances dictate.
