Welcome to the Rangitaiki River Race 2012. Our race is either a short sharp 10km blast for the W6’s or a 6km drag race for the OC1’s, OC2’s and SUPs starting at Thornton Beach, heading up our beloved Rangitaiki River around a buoy and then back to the finish line again. Just for fun we will also be having a “Fly the ama” competition after the races to see who can fly their OC1 ama in the air the longest out on the water – there’s a $50 prize up for grabs for the best junior ama flyer (u19) and $50 for the best senior (19+) ama flyer.

All our paddlers will be in to win some fabulous cash prizes with a total prize pool of $1000 thanks to the Rangitaiki River Festival Organising Committee. You can stick around to enjoy the food, fun and sun at the festival afterwards or check out the other activities including beach touch, kayak fishing, kina and watermelon eating competitions, swimming competition as well as various stalls, music and entertainment for the whole family.

We will have a free sausage sizzle and soup waiting for you after your paddle and there will also be yummy hangi meals available for purchase to support the Manawahe Eco Trust who look after our awesome native birds up in the Manawahe Hills. The hangi should be ready just in time for prize giving at lunchtime!

- Novice and Junior W6 (6km)
- Mens and Mixed OC1, OC2 and SUP (6km)
