Kia ora koutou, Due to current biosecurity concerns regarding the potential invasion of golden clam, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our upcoming Te Wheke Waka Ama Regatta. We are actively working through the biosecurity requirements and mitigation measures to ensure our event can proceed safely and responsibly. Protecting our waterways and the wider waka ama community is our priority. The regatta will now be held in September. This timing has been intentionally chosen as it falls shortly before the Long Distance Nationals, providing paddlers with a strong lead-in event. It also returns Te Wheke to its beginnings, when our regatta traditionally coincided with the lead-up to Long Distance Nationals. We appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support as we navigate this situation. Further details, including the confirmed September date and updated event information, will be shared as soon as possible. Ngā mihi nui, Taupō Waka Ama Club
