Waka Ama NZ Child Safeguarding & Protection Policy

Waka Ama NZ has developed and implemented a Child Safeguarding & Protection Policy to uphold our commitment to the protection of children and young people.
By adhering to this policy, we will ensure the safety and well-being of all children and young people participating in waka ama activities. Waka Ama NZ will advocate for this policy, and raise awareness and understanding of child safeguarding and protection.

Waka Ama NZ has developed a Child Safeguarding & Protection Policy Template for clubs and and regions to utilise. This template is reflective of our Waka Ama NZ Policy and we encourage all clubs and regions to utilise and implement this template. 

The information within this template acts as a guide only - we recommend you amend this template accordingly to your club.

Child Safeguarding & Protection Online Course

The Sport Integrity Commission and Sport NZ have developed a Child Safeguarding and Protection Course that is available online for free.

This course is designed to support learners to keep children and young people in sports and recreation safe. It covers child safeguarding practices, how to identity and respond to abuse and harm, and how to keep children and young people, and yourself, safe in different situations.

It’s for anyone involved in the sport and recreation sector who provides activities for or has a role in interacting with children and young people.
