Foundation Level
How to Coach:
This module will cover skills and techniques to become an effective coach.
Paddling Basics:
At the completion of this module the participant will be able to coach a novice paddler to a level that the paddler will be able to perform basic paddling skills.
Steering Basics:
At the completion of this module the participant will be able to coach a novice paddler to a level that the paddler will be able to steer a waka in low-risk conditions.
CBE Waka Ama Safety:
The purpose of the CBE (Coastguard Boating Education) Waka Ama Safety course is to encourage safe practices essential to paddling Waka Ama, in addition to that covered in Day Skipper and Boatmaster. Includes parts of the Waka Ama, equipment, emergencies, communication, weather, trip planning, navigation techniques, rules and regulations.
Culture of Waka Ama (e-learning):
The Culture of Waka Ama course is an online learning module for our waka ama members, waka ama whānau and for the wider waka ama community to learn about the culture and sport of waka ama - the way we do things and why.
Development Level
How to Coach W1 Basics: At the completion of this module, the participant will have the tools to coach a paddler to a level that they can control a single waka ama craft and participate in an event appropriate to their skill level.
Coaching Sprint Racing Skills: At the completion of this module, participants will have the tools to coach athletes to compete in National, Regional, and Club waka ama sprint events.
Coaching Distance Racing Skills: At the completion of this module, participants will have the tools to coach athletes to compete in National, Regional, and Club waka ama long distance events.
