Description

The Rotohoe Series is an established series of open-water waka ama races that has provided paddlers from Rotorua, Te Puku o Te Ika and further afield with the opportunity to paddle waka ama on (Lake) Rotorua and surrounding lakes. It is a stepping-stone for novice paddlers into more competitive paddling, as well as providing an opportunity for competitive paddlers to build during the winter months towards national and international races.

Rotohoe is also about Ruamata Waka Ama maintaining its connection to the moana, which have provided sustenance, and been traversed over, for many generations. It is a part of Ruamata's greater commitment to Oranga Tangata: healthy lifestyles, healthy whānau, in particular te reo Māori and kaupapa whānau.

Safety Notes:

  • At 20 knots the committee will cancel the junior and novice events. 
  • At 25 knots the committee will decide whether to continue the event. Should it be decided that the event continues, all paddlers will be required to wear a PFD.
  • All J16 paddlers will be required to wear a PFD. 
  • Other paddlers may require PFD wear, depending on weather conditions and at the discretion of the Race Director.
