Long Distance Nationals

Narrow Neck Beach, Devonport,Auckland
5th & 6th May 2006

This year the Long Distance Nationals are being hosted by the Auckland Region (AROCA). Two venues on the North Shore have been booked to allow for the variable weather conditions.

The 1st and preferred option is Wakatere Yacht Club on Vauxhall Rd, near Seabreeze Rd intersection at Narrow Neck, Devonport. The course will start and end at Narrow Neck beach with the course following the shore line up towards Whangaparoa.

The 2nd option (if the winds are easterly) is Birkenhead Wharf and the Birkenhead Yacht Club on Hinemoa St, Birkenhead. The course will start and end at Birkenhead Wharf and head up the inner harbour towards Hobsonville.

Schedule
Waka Weighing

  • W1 & W2 - Friday 7am - 8:30am
  • W6 - Friday 4pm - 6pm
  • W6 - Saturday 7am - 8am

Opening Ceremony - 9am Friday

Racing

  • Friday - W1 and W2 races. Racing starts at 10am
  • Saturday - all W6 racing. Racing starts at 9am

As per the NKOA Race Rules 44.1 - " The minimum age for any paddler in an open water event shall be 17yrs." Therefore we cannot accept entries from anyone younger than 17yrs.

Race Divisions
J19 - W1, W2 and W6 - distance 10km
Open 23, Open, Masters, Snr Masters, Golden Masters - distance W1 and W2 - 15km, W6 - 28km
Open Mixed - W2 distance is 15km and W6 distance is 28km

*Please note, for a division to be run there must be at least 3 entries

Entry Fees
Junior (J19) - $40 per paddler.
Open 23 - Seniors - $70 per paddler.

If a Junior is paddling Jnr and Open then they pay the greater fee. If paddlers are paddling multiple divisions - then add $10

Please open the Excel Worksheet or .pdf file attached below to obtain your Clubs unique Banking Reference Number.
It is important that you use this number so we can identify who the payment is from. Input it either as a serial number on the Bank deposit form, or put it in the Payee Reference field if you are doing on-line electronic Banking. Failure to include the reference may result in Koha to AROCA !!

Entries
There will be on-line entries, same as for the Sprint Nationals. On-line entries close on the 21st April.

Entry Fees are to be paid to the stated account by the 28th April. Fees are non-refundable.

Trailer/Waka storage/Security

  • Trailers can be parked in a specially reserved area just up the road from the venue, within walking distance. We ask that you bring sufficient chain so that a number of trailers can be chained and padlocked together.
  • Waka can be stored at the venue - bring your own tires
  • Security - overnight security will be provided at the venue for waka.

After Function
There will be a catered function on the Saturday night from 7pm. Venue TBA

Accommodation
There is a wide range of accommodation on the North Shore, ranging from Motor Camps, to Motels and Hotels.
