Whats in store for 2004 Sprint Nationals

On 1st March a National Hui was held to discuss feedback from the Sprint Nationals. These are the outcomes.

Recommendations
  • The programmers develop a programme based on a limit of 60 races per day. This will facilitate at least two hours for catchup if required.
  • No races to be carried over to the next day.

There are a number of considerations to facilitate the reduction in races which include:

  • Start racing Monday afternoon
  • Reduce the number of mixed races by limiting the number of entries per region.
  • W1 event will be held as a stand alone event, on a date prior to the Nationals (probably in December). This will be based on racing up to semi-finals. The finals only, for each division will be raced at the Nationals in January 2004.
  • No regional W12 entries, except for senior masters, kuia and kaumatua divisions.
  • All Midget races will be 250m. No adult or competent steerer will be allowed. The Midget age category is now 7-10 years.
  • The Open 23 category is renamed Junior 23. Junior 19s can only paddle one grade up. ie Junior 23.

These are just some of the issues that were discussed. Full meeting minutes are attached below.
