TPOTI - Tip & Tow Workshops

In October 2003 the TPOTI Region (Te Puku O Te Ika) ran a series of safety workshops.

The paddlers were split into groups and at each station they instructors tought them various skills including, tipping and righting a waka, attaching a rope for towing, rigging techniques for racing and more.

The workshops were held at Hamilton Waterworld, Rotorua Aquatic Centre and the Windermere Polytech Pool in Tauranga. The swimming pools provided the paddlers with a safe environment in which to learn the techniques and test their new skills.

Over 130 paddlers including 41 juniors attended the workshops. Everyone who completed the workshop received a certificate.

With the positive response from paddlers and clubs, this training workshop will more than likely become a regular event.

We would like to thank those people who took time out to facilitate, provide equipment and participate at each workshop to make them a success.
