One-man Outrigger The HURRICANE

Coming to New Zealand soon! The Hurricane is the result of 2 years of R&D.

A series of computer designed and machined prototypes were tested. The goal was to design a versatile hull that performs well in a variety of conditions. By defining the hull shapes parametrically each successive prototype could be refined quickly and precisely.

The results justify the effort. The Hurricane is smooth in flat water and responsive in the bumps. This makes the Waka perfect for New Zealand waters. It is super light weight yet strong enough to handle the big seas of Hawaii. The simplicity of it design means it can be assembled in less than 60 seconds! Component parts for the Hurricane were also developed using CAD.

The moulds for the iakos, foot pedals, and rudders, as well as the hull and deck masters, were CNC milled. The Hurricane is constructed using the best materials and processes available. Carbon fibre is used extensively throughout the canoe. We use specially formulated oven cure epoxies, polyurethane paints, and prepregs to make the lightest canoe on the market.
