Tarawera is the second largest of the Rotorua Lakes, with Mount Tarawera rising 2664 feet on its’ eastern side. Tarawera means Hot or Burning Peak. This certainly was the case on 10th June 1886, when Tarawera erupted and caused quite a bit of destruction in the region. Let’s hope that on Saturday 24th June, that it is the paddlers doing the destruction on the water by creating some hot competition!!
This lake has a unique beauty and you will enjoy racing in this pristine environment. We hope that you can make it to the 3rd race in our Roto Hoe series.
