Overall the Tuatara Club were successful in the Intermediate Girls and Boys W6 divisions with Te Patuwai Perfect Shadows proving too strong over their opponents completing the 5.5km course in 42mins 55secs. Te Patuwai Bad Boys completed the course in 41mins 3secs.
With the W1 race run as a relay it proved to be a popular choice ranging from experienced W1 paddlers to many where most it was their 1st or 2nd time on a single. Majority of paddlers completed the course rudderless, which was great to see from these young athletes.
We had 8 entrants in the Midget/Intermediate Boys division with Ash Roozendaal taking the overall time to complete the 2.5 course in a time of 24mins 60secs.
The Midget/Intermediate Girls W1 section saw a total of 12 compete with 5 in the midget girls and 7 in the Intermediate girls. Top honours went to Atea Rangihika from the Whakatane Waka Ama Club in a time of 24mins 60secs, closely followed by Josephine Wilson of Te Waka Hoe O Pokohinu and Sharleen Willams of Tuatara Waka Ama Club.
Overall the day was a great success with many willing to return again at our next regatta in our series held at the Thornton Boat Ramp Sunday 18th March.
If anyone is interested in attending the next regattas in our series you are more than welcome. We will help provide waka if necessary.
