Paddlers still came from afar to partake in this event.
Not many paddlers have ventured to the eastern shores of Lake Rotorua before, it is more widely used by the windsurfers and sailing vessels.
The venue was awesome; we had barbecues, plenty of toilets, a playground for the kids and lots of clean green grass. Pity the weather wasn’t as good as the venue.
When we arrived you could just see the point off in the distance. By the time we started racing, all silhouettes had disappeared amongst the fog and the rain. Through all of this the course remained flat.
The W6 raced 15km, (which was a surprise for some), while the W1's raced a nice 7km course.
The support from clubs was once again enormous and these events would not be successful without them. The calibre of clubs at this event was massive. 17 clubs in total attended, mostly within our region.
But big thanks to Waitakere, Pokohinu and Ngati Kahungungu, for travelling some distance to support this event.
Also last but not least we cannot forgot the jobs of our support boat people, Phil, and Toko from Te Waiariki Purea Trust, Elton & Rebecca from the volunteers Coastguard, and Papa Sonny Savage, you guys are the best, and your efforts are hugely appreciated.
We are positive that the remaining two events are going to be as good as the previous races held on Rotoma, Rotoiti and Rotorua.
So we can't wait to see you all again at Rotohoe # 4, targeted for Okataina, but not yet confirmed, and hosted by Ruamata in conjunction with Te Arawa Paddlers on Saturday, 26th May 2007.
Results are to follow, and if there are any queries regarding this race, then please feel free to contact Kelley on
