The Weather on the day was very brisk, to the point where I had goose bumps on my goose bumps.
It was an amazing turn out despite the chilly conditions surrounding the event. A few teams managed to find some form of shelter around the point of the first bay some claiming it was like paddling into a different zone where the lake flattened out to pristine conditions and then enjoyed the surf coming home.
Aroha mai re the situation with the toilets being on the brink and a huge thank you to the Tuatara Waka Ama Club member who attempted to help us out with this dilemma.
Department of Conservation have been informed of this and have also apologised for any inconvenience which had occurred on the day.
We would also like to apologise for any confusion caused with the race course distance as many competitors had requested that a few Kilometres be added to make it worth while and I’m sure you will agree with me it was judging from the smiles on all of the Kaihoe who got off the water that day.
This is our clubs second attempt at running a regatta and as we are new at this, it would be much appreciated if you were to give our club feedback on how you thought the day went good or bad remember we are learning.
We would not have had a good day of paddling if it wasn’t for the ongoing support from all of our paddlers who travelled so far to this event to tautoko it, thank you all and we look forward to returning the favour with interest.
Finally I would like to thank our Support Boat crews Elton and the Rotorua Volunteer Coast guard, Warner and Te Wananga O Aotearoa Kai hoe waka and Uncle Pinto and Uncle Rangi and also our Ringa wera Whaea Ellen and Dj Pene Paora Kia ora koutou, nga mihi nui kia tatou
Yours truly
Peter Waru
