Results - IceBreaker Challenge 2007

It certainly was a real IceBreaker Challenge this year with snow, sleet and gale force winds causing race organisers some major problems.

W1 and W2 racing was cancelled on Friday due to the strong wind conditions; the first time since we started our event back in 2001 that races have had to be cancelled.

Despite cold conditions, wind and some sleety rain, W6 racing was held on Saturday over a shortened course so that no one spent too long out on the harbour. Our friends from Hawaiki Nui in Wellington coped well with the cold conditions to win the Master Men's division. Once again Te Awa Haku Dogfish took out the Open Men's competition with a commanding win. The Swamp Donkeys from Te Waka Pounamu reigned supreme in the Women's division holding off a thrown together crew with paddlers from Motueka and Christchurch who came in second. The Baas Baas from Wanaka were the Open Mixed division winners.

Race organisers would like to thank all the paddlers who participated and put up with the adverse weather conditions to make it a great day, especially those who travelled a great distance to paddle. As always our volunteers get a special thank you for all their hard work and support.
