I was impressed with a event I was able to participate and support in and thought it would be good feedback for the promotion of waka ama on the website.
I was down visiting family last week in Turangi, for a scheduled snowboarding trip, that was cancelled - and ended up helping with a great Waka Ama Wananga - which was a collaborative project with Ngati Toa Waka Ama - from Wellington - Rangataua Mauriora - Ngati Turangitukua, Ngati Manunui, Tuwharetoa Health Services, Te Whare Aronui o Tuwharetoa, Turangi Water Sports & Turangi Coastguard Patrol, and the three schools based at the southern end of the lake.
It was well run by Jeanette, Ropata, Matua Jason, Te Rangimoia, Aranui, Arthur and their crew from Wellington, it was great to see a follow on from Te Toki Voyaging Trust who re-planted the seed of Waka Development in Turangi from Waitangi Weekend 2007. Well done to all who were involved with the event, it was awesome to see entire families having a go at Waka Ama and the growth of Waka Ama at Lake Taupo again.
Cant wait to see the re-introduction of races being held on the Lake again - with the further development of Waka Ama in that region.
Nga mihi to all who involved! Well done it was a awesome event!
