Stolen - two W1 Ama and Kiato (Rotorua)

Two Ama and Kiato were stolen from our storage area on the weekend. They were a Surfrigger MK II Ama with Kiato and a Tahitian Ama.

The Tahitian Ama is all white. The Surfrigger MK II Ama is white with a black strip running through the middle. These Ama and Kiato are easily recognised even if painted.

This area has no access to the public and the waka cannot be seen as they are secure behind huge steel corrugated gates.

The Tahitian Ama was strapped to the Kiato and Waka, and elevated on a rack. The person/s who did this would have climbed up onto the frame and unlashed it.

We do a lot of work for the waka ama whanau and community for local, regional and national regatta, and to have people come and do this to us is unforgivable. They make it hard for us to have trust and respect for anyone.

If any of the Waka Ama whanau see any of these, please contact the Rotorua Police Station, or myself directly. There will be some very grateful owners.

If they are returned to the Rotorua Police Station or any Police station, the matter will go no further.
