Paddlers race under their regional banners for the W1 500 titles. Gisborne falls under the umbrella of Te Uranga o te Ra.

The stand-out result came in the open 23 women's final where Te Uranga o te Ra filled the top three placings.

Emma Pere won from Shontelle McLean and Tania Hill.

Five of the eight finalists were from this region, Bayleigh Harrison finishing seventh and Rose King eighth.

Hill went on to win the junior 19 women's title while Keanu Pere won the intermediate men's final.

Gisborne district councillor Brian Wilson, representing the Auckland region because he is racing with an Auckland club team, won the senior master men's title.

Other medals went to Bruce Campbell (silver, open men), Raana Pere (silver, int women), Te Moananui-A-Kiwa Nuku (silver, junior 16 men), Anthony Tapp (silver, master men) and Tamihana Nuku (bronze, golden masters men).
