The powhiri for the new waka will be at Taipa Area School in front of the whare at 9.00am. Crews are invited to link up with the waka taua that will be there to escort the waka in.

A suggested launching time and place for waka ama crews is 8.00am off Taipa beach if it is a good day or otherwise from the Taipa yacht club jetty.

Hilda will be there with 1-2 crews from Rangaunu and will coordinate departure and link up with waka taua etc. Waka will paddle out to meet the new waka as it comes in from Aurere.

The waka hourua will be guided in as close as possible to Taipa where the powhiri and hakari will take place.

There will be a race organised for all waka off the beach between 12.00 and 1.00pm around the new waka which will be taken 2-3 kms off shore - weather permitting.

There will be food available during the event – but you may need to bring extra for yourselves.
