Worlds 2010 - National Selections Panui 2

Important information for all those who are trialing for the 2010 Worlds squads

SELECTIONS FOR SENIORS
We have received 226 Senior Intents to Trial.

Senior paddlers will attend water trials on May 2 and 3. (If possible these trials will all be held in one day (May 2)

Trials will cost $20 per paddler. This is to cover the cost of the trials and is to be paid on the morning, prior to trials taking place.

WAKA FOR TRIALS
Any model of waka (With a Rudder) can be used to trial but the hull must weigh a minimum of 16kg AND we will not hold up any trial for people waiting for Waka. You must provide your own Waka weights,(water will not be accepted).

All Waka will be weighed prior to racing. There will be random weighing and checking of the correct weights much like Sprint Nationals 2009.

There will be no cuts after these initial trials. However, these trials will give paddlers the opportunity to realistically assess their chances of gaining a seat in a crew. All paddlers, wishing to continue, will then attend satellite training camps at the venue closest to them. Venues and dates are yet to be finalised but it is expected that the camps will be in:
* south Island
* Wellington
* Rotorua
* Auckland
* Northland

In July, all senior paddlers will attend water trials after which cuts will be made to form national squads. It is envisaged that satellite training camps will continue after July. However, all senior paddlers should expect to travel to some trainings out of their region. Crews from these squads will have to meet qualifying times at the November regatta.

Senior W12 crews will be formed from the nationally selected squads but the regions may also form W12 crews from those paddlers who are cut after the July trials. All W12 crews will trial at the November regatta to meet qualifying times.

Senior W1 paddlers will be selected from the 2010 National Club Championships in January.

The NKOA Selection Process Committee is currently developing a plan to cover:
* How to best utilise those people that have made themselves available to coach seniors
* How to keep training camp costs to a minimum for senior paddlers while retaining the integrity of national selections
* Specific/consistent crew selection criteria to be instigated by the senior Coaches

This plan could not be developed until we knew paddler numbers and how many skilled people would be available to coach.

At the water trials on May 2 and 3 paddlers will be informed of:
* Who the coaching staff are
* Training camp venues and dates
* Approximate Noumea travel and accommodation costs

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
NKOA will be brokering the best deal for airfares and accommodation for the entire contingent, both Juniors and Seniors will use the same booking arrangements. This will not be negotiable as NKOA needs the buying power of the entire contingent to get the best deal. Booking arrangements will be clarified at the May Trials and Junior programmes will also be notified in May through the NKOA regional reps.

REMINDER ABOUT JUNIOR PROGRAMMES
All junior crews, W6 and W12, will be selected by the regions. It is up to each region to develop their own selection criteria and programme.

All junior crews will trial at a qualifying regatta, in November, at which minimum qualifying times must be met. These times are yet to be set by the, NKOA appointed, Selection Process Committee.

NKOA will not require any details about the junior paddlers until after they have qualified at the November regatta. W1 paddlers will be selected from the 2010 National Club Championships in January. Any inquiries in regard to Juniors should be directed to the Regional organisations.
