Nau mai, haere mai, piki mai ki Terenga Paraoa, Whangarei. Parihaka invite you to join us to celebrate Matariki with a mid-winter, new year hoe!
This inaugural event on Saturday 27th June, will include a 5km race for novice and junior paddlers and a 15km race for opens/masters/seniors. We are encouraging men, women and mixed crews.
If you can paddle it – you can enter it!
All races will be open to OC1, OC2, OC6, Stand Up Paddles, kayaks and surfskis
During Matariki, we celebrate our unique place in the world. We give respect to the whenua on which we live, and admiration to our mother earth, PapatÅ«Änuku. Matariki signals growth. It's a time of change. It's a time to prepare, and a time of action. During Matariki, we acknowledge what we have and what we have to give. Matariki celebrates the diversity of life. It's a celebration of culture, language, spirit and people. Come and paddle with us and celebrate Matariki.
All paddlers will receive, in the spirit of Matariki, an awesome kai.
Special Matariki themed t-shirts / hoodies will be available for sale.
The inaugural Parihaka Hoe Matariki trophy will be awarded along with spot prizes.
