Strategic Plan Development Meeting

Yesterday in Auckland, NKOA held a meeting to start formulating a strategic plan, mission statement and visions for the future of the sport.

Firstly, if i have spelt any of the names wrong, please say so

I will start off by saying thank you to our kind hosts, who let use of the Te Manukanuka o Hoturoa Marae at the Auckland Airport for our hui. Zella "Kingi's mum" and Henare, gave us a good run down of the history of the Marae, and the background of the carvings and surrounding area.

It really is a fantastic place, with some amazing carvings, do go and check it out if you get the opportunity.

Onto the meeting. The invitation was put out to all the regional association presidents to attend, and it was really good to see that all regions were fairly represented in the process.

The meeting was facilitated by Anne Elder-Knight (a professional facilitator) in conjunction with and Dallas Seymour from SPARC. SPARC is helping to fund the strategic planning process.

I personally felt the Strategic Planning day was really successful, there was a lot of ideas and concepts that came out of it that were good, and it was great to see the similarities in everyones hopes and dreams for the future of our sport.

The next step is for Anne to come back to us in about 3 weeks with a DRAFT Plan for us to look over. Following that, the plan will be circulated to all paddlers so that you can review and have your input into the final product.

It's not normal to come back from a day long meeting, feeling energized, so I just felt it was good to share that with everyone. Looking forward, I think it is going to be great to have some definite goals to aim for, and i think in the next 2-3years some really exciting things will be happening.
