Does your club have a strategic plan ? (updated)

Just recently NKOA released developed our strategic plan for the next few years. So now it is turn for your club and region, to have a look at the strategic planning process.

It is good for clubs to have a strategic plan.

We are not talking about a detailed 50 page document. It could be as few as one or two pages.

Defining the reason/purpose for your clubs existence, some goals that your club can achieve, eg levels of membership, fulfilling commitments to local community/whanau.

My club "Tauranga Moana OCC" has just entered into the strategic plan development process. We are working with our local Sporting Trust "Sport Bay of Plenty" who are assisting us in developing our plan.

I suggest you have a talk to your local sporting trust. Most trusts have a development officer, who will be able to help your club out.

Update
Someone just emailed me and asked if they could have a copy of our plan, to save them the effort.

I will happily put the plan on the website when it is complete, however this misses the point a strategic plan a bit.

Each club has its own identity, several variables, such as location, membership base, number of clubs nearby, cultures, customs, etc will have an effect on the goals in your plan

Part of the strategic plan is you need to get the whole club together in one room and get you members to come up with the ideas and goals.

If you just give your members a bunch of goals that they have no investment in, they are unlikely to put in the effort required to achieve those goals.
