Louise Henderson recognised with SPARC Sport Volunteer Award
Congratulations to Louise Henderson, who was the recent recipient on the Sport Auckland Regional Volunteer - Lifetime achievement award.
The award of Lifetime Achievement Award is for 25+ years of service to community sport;
“Our winners are inspiring individuals who have gone that extra mile for their clubs, schools or sport. They put their hand up to help, and it’s been great to recognise their efforts with these awards,”
Said Sport Auckland Community Sport Advisor, Amie O’Brien.
The nomination was submitted by Nga Kaihoe O Aotearoa earlier this year, included the following:
“Louise Henderson is one of the God Mothers of our sport of Waka Ama. The Since 1985 Louise has been involved in Waka Ama at all levels. She has helped to found 2 clubs in Auckland with her late partner (Greg "Ace" Cuthers) and has held various roles in governance in both Auckland and Nationally.
She is currently the Treasurer of the Auckland Regional Outrigger Canoe Association, and was on the Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa committee until 2008. Louise lives and breathes Waka Ama and for many paddlers in Auckland is one of the reasons why we started paddling. She is a matriarch and a guiding light in our sport and we value so much the time and effort she has dedicated to it.
Louise has without a doubt dedicated the last 26 years of her life to Waka Ama and is one of the reasons why were are experiencing such huge benefits now. To this day Louise can be found daily either on the water or on the water’s edge, (rain hail or shine) coaching or organising her club teams and then jumping in her car (which is always full of paddles and wet life jackets) to drive to a hui about the Auckland Regional Association.
