Takapuna Beach Cup

Takapuna Beach Cup

It’s not how big you are, its how big your dreams are!! Whilst most teams have finalized their boats and crews, others are still engaged in discussions to determine their line-ups. For all teams, both settled and prospective, certain things are set in stone.

At present entries are flooding in for all divisions with a big contingent of overseas entries to contest the Takapuna Beach Cup, with an additional prize for the 1st Male and Female NZ Crew in the 42km race is - free accommodation at Hamilton Island for their 2012 Hammo Cup

The shaping field looks to be as competitive as ever and the event welcomes teams from Hawaii, Tahiti, UK, and our Australian neighbors’ teams spreading from Sydney to Perth.

The sea battles that have been fought in the past suggest that a grand epic is in the making. This year there will be a battle of brain and brawn with 10 Senior Master Men Crews fighting for line honors and I’m sure Nappy and his team have been strategizing for a year on how best to paddle our seas with no waves.

Our Sunday spectacular demolition derby OC1 Relay entries appear to be about the same as last year 80+ teams. Girls put on your crash helmets and watch out for those steam roller testosterone male paddlers on the course.

This year we have changed the format by introducing a 7Km race on Friday and to date many overseas crews have already entered… come on you locals take the afternoon off and enjoy a short splash before the big day, with prizegiving taking place that evening.

On Friday Night there will be a welcoming and pre-registration, a relaxing time to check out the competition, catch up with old friends, view Waka Ama Footage and purchase a memorabilia shirt.

Rambo will be here again to film all the racing as well as our Sprint National photograher to record and snap all the action.

Stop the procrastination, register now so that we can finalise numbers for catering and ensure we have a waka and safety boat for your team….NEKMINNIT someone is waving goodbye to me from the shore.
