Tauranga Harbour Challenge Results
The weather was amazing, paddling conditions were perfect and the array of paddlers that covered our shores here in Tauranga definitely made an impact on our harbour. It was an awe inspiring day with paddlers from as far as Australia, South Island, Far North, Gisborne & as near as Rotorua, Hamilton, Auckland & Tauranga all travelling to share in a piece of some paddle action.
We welcomed the newly added novice division to this year’s race which was favoured by those new paddlers who were keen to extend their paddling and competitive edge and to the two Golden Master crews who turned up to show us that they have what it takes to be competitive. This year’s race saw an increase in W1 paddlers, with mother and son Nyree King and Tupuria King taking out both the women’s and men’s W1 divisions.
Congratulations to Kingfisher Boats who held tight to their title, but not without a fight from Turangawaewae Open men and Pineula to take out the W6 Mens division & Congratulations to Aniwaniwa from Mareikura – who raced with style to win the W6 Women’s division. A big congratulations to Mareikura for winning the club prize – Club BBQ & Gazebo – and hope these assets will be well utilised by your club.
