BEREAVEMENT: Amster Reedy

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a Waka Ama stalwart and great leader.

Amster Reedy was a founder of the Tu Nui a Te Ika Outrigger Canoe Club in Wellington and was instrumental in getting the sport of Waka Ama started in the Hoe Tonga region. The Waka Ama community are grateful for all that you have given and the legacy that remains.

Moe mai rā e te rangatira.

Renee and Chris - Arohanui and condolences to Amster and his whanau xxx

Deb Misiuepa - Tamaki/Manukau - He mihi tino aroha ki te whanau pani o Amster. I recall in the earlier 90's Amster bringing a Te Nui o Te Ika team up to compete in the Tamaki Iron Person Race, 25k. One of the very few long distance races on the calendar. The thing that struck me most about this roopu and Amster's leadership was that they were immersed in tikanga and reo and it was humbling to be in their presence. I've also been in tikanga workshops with Amster over the years and been over awed by his mana and humility. He is a taonga that will be spoken of for years to come. Moe mai ra e te rangatira kua wehe ki te po. Haere, haere, haere atu ra ki te taha o to tatou tupuna I noho ana i te ara wheturangi haere atu ra.
