Last Friday a significant event was held , the blessing “whakahiki I te whenua” or sod turning blessing for Nga Hau Maiangi. This display signified a dream that was mooted over 20 years ago by original founders Marie Anderson and Eru Thompson.
It was a wonderful afternoon,
with the Auckland Rowing Club in full blazers, the coming together of all club
paddlers from senior paddlers to the young, representatives from AROCA and the
local community.
Nga Hau Maiangi is the
collaboration of four waka ama clubs, Te Paerangi Waka Ama, Cook Islands
Outriggers, Manukau Outriggers, Pakuranga Outriggers and the Auckland Rowing
club. The first of its kind for two water sports to come together under one
purpose.
We envisage the build will be completed by the end of Feb 2015.
