BEREAVEMENT: Raz Meti

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Raz Meti who we lost on Monday 9th February

Raz was heavily involved with waka ama through the Hauraki Sports Club in Auckland. He and his wife Phylis have dedicated themselves to coaching and developing Juniors and in-particular Secondary School teams in Auckland for well over a decade. Raz and Phylis have coached hundreds of secondary school paddlers and given them a wonderful introduction to the sport of Waka Ama, many going to become club members after leaving school.

Raz is currently with family at their home in Pah Road, Epsom and visitors are welcome to pay their respects to this special man. There will be a Church service for Raz at 6:00pm on Saturday 14th February at the PIC Church, Edinburugh Rd, Newton. All are welcome to attend the service.

Prior to the service Raz and family will be leaving home around 4pm and will head down to Orakei for a paddlers salut and a final goodbye to the Waka before Raz is taken to Rarotonga on Monday.

Beka - Uncle!!! I don't know what to say, do know own what to do... You have been my teacher since I was 5-6 years of age... You have been my teacher in many aspects in life... Waka Ama was a big one for me!! You have tought me so much, the techniques of how to hold yourself... To singles... To flipping.. Even though when we flipped in was in the shallow at the beach... Lol. It was always good, and fun, I remember when you asked me 'hay wanna stare? ' I looked at you & thought to myself... 'what I don't know how to stare' lol... So I said 'naah I'm alright uncle, Mayb next time' lol, I was really scared to stare... Lol, in my head I was thinking what if we all tip?? What If I crash?? That's what was going through my head at the time... Lol, but I will never be able to thank you enough for everything you have since for me uncle, you and aunty!! There's this school quote that we have & it's 'ko te mea tuatahi ka tika, ka tika Ko te mea tuatahi' which means. First will be best, then will be first.. This will always remind me of uncle because he always had the little things done before the big things.... The little this are what matters the most in life, rather then the big things...

Iloveyou uncle! Always will uncle, I will never forget you :* always in our hearts uncle!! Love from your niece xoxo

PS, tell Nan we all said hi xx

Huri Girl Hauraki & Edward Job - Our BIG Man. Physically and mentally uncle you were or big man . Not only for our immediate family, but also for the family you have made. From Waka Ama, golf, work and many more groups you have given your time to, you were everyone's big man. Loved by all of us ! You will be dearly missed by everyone who has had you in their presence. You have taught me from a young girl that "what ever you put your head to, is achievable". Also to "never mind about that" and put your time and effort into bigger things. I remember all the good times we used to have as a anau. From making our own sparkler bombs for guy fawkes to light at mission bay and spending Christmas with all our anau playing sports at mission bay to training for all sports for our Arorangi sports days and teaching Edward everything you know so he can strive at work as you did. You were there from day one uncle and have been there ever since. I love you uncle Raz, Aunty Phyl &Phillis & will be here for you add he was there for us . #familiesareforever
