Event Sanctioning Update – 20 September 2021


Kia ora koutou,


This pānui is to provide an update on the Waka Ama NZ event sanctioning process. As we evolve and the environment changes, we too must update and improve our processes. The updates and amendments to the Waka Ama NZ sanctioning process are effective as of Friday 1 October 2021.


Please note the following key updates: 

  • An event sanctioning fee information sheet is now available, see here.

  • Series that have the same host, location, and event structure for each event in the series are eligible for the series sanctioning fee

  • Series that have a different host, location or event structure for each event in the series are not eligible for the series sanctioning fee

  • The Covid Policy Agreement has been updated to meet government requirements; this is a required sanctioning document. 

  • The Operations & Safety Management Plan has been updated with a Covid section; this is a required sanctioning document.


Ongoing sanctioning information:

  • Sanctioning fees and sanctioning documents must still be paid and submitted no later than thirty (30) days of your requested date being confirmed by Waka Ama NZ.

  • The online entry system must be used for all events that are sanctioned by Waka Ama NZ.

  • All sanctioned events must adhere to the Waka Ama NZ race rules.
