Waka Ama Activity within the new Covid Protection Framework

As you are all aware the Covid Protection Framework (Traffic Light System) comes into effect at 11:59pm this Thursday 2nd December.

This new system brings with it some greater certainty around Waka Ama Activity taking place moving forward. However, it should be remembered that Covid-19 is in the community and the measures that have been put in place for the Traffic Light System are to help protect people from contracting and spreading Covid-19. Waka Ama NZ encourages our entire waka ama community to get vaccinated if you are within eligible ages.

The Waka Ama NZ office has been navigating our way through all the new information that has come out from Government over the last week and we have put together advice for clubs regarding Waka Ama Activity that can take place during each Traffic Light setting.

There will be further information over the coming weeks with regard to Waka Ama Events and also tools to help our clubs navigate the new traffic light system.

Please read the table attached and the links to our website that contain more detailed information.

Waka Ama NZ: Covid Protection Framework Information
There is a lot of information and we have tried to keep it as simple as possible. There may be some changes to information over the next few weeks when we receive updates from Government.  If your club have any uncertainty, please contact us and we can help you as much as possible. Just like all new things it will require some patience and us all working together, but we will get there!
We are in the process of establishing a FAQ page regarding Waka Ama under the Covid-19 Protection Framework. This will be available online next week. Please feel free to send us your questions.

Finally, for our whānau in Tāmaki Makaurau, this Friday will mean the first time you have been allowed to paddle in a 6man in over 100 days! We know it has been tough and we are so happy that you are able to get back out on the water safely within the Red Traffic Light setting.

Please take care and stay safe

Ngā mihi
