Event Sanctioning Update

Kia ora koutou,

This pānui is to provide an update on the Waka Ama NZ event sanctioning process. As we evolve and the environment changes, we too must update and improve our processes accordingly. The updates and amendments to the Waka Ama NZ sanctioning process are effective as of 1 November 2022.

All events currently sanctioned in the Waka Ama NZ calendar will maintain their sanctioning.
All events requesting sanctioning for upcoming events will be required to complete the sanctioning process in accordance with the updates and with the updated sanctioning documents.

Please note the following key updates:
  • The NZ Government announced a new COVID-19 Strategy which will replace the old Covid Protection Framework (CPF) and Traffic Light System. This change took place at 11:59pm Monday 12 September 2022.
  • There are no longer any restrictions for Waka Ama under this new strategy.
  • The previous Waka Ama NZ Covid-19 Event Policy is no longer in effect as of 11.59pm Monday 12 September 2022.
  • All required sanctioning and approval documents have been updated accordingly:
    • Event Sanctioning Agreement OR Event Approval Agreement
    • Operations & Safety Management Plan
All updated sanctioning and approval documents are now available online and can be found on our website here: WANZ Event Sanctioning. Please ensure you use these new templates available when submitting your sanctioning or approval documents.
