Gold Clam Management at Karāpiro

As kaitiaki of our roto and awa we are emphasizing the importance of following the Check, Clean, Dry
steps for our Waka Ama whānau to ensure we do not spread Golden clams or any other invasive
species in our waterways.

As per the rules at Lake Karāpiro, all waka, life jackets/PFDs, clothing and footwear will need to be washed before leaving Lake Karāpiro, to ensure we do not spread the species to other waterways around the mōtu. There will be dedicated wash stations set up for waka, ama and kiato in the loading bay area. In addition, there will be dunking bins (with diluted bleach) for life jackets/PFDs, clothing, and footwear along the exit pathway. Please ensure all paddlers comply with the volunteer’s directions to protect our waterways.
