Thank you to the clubs who kindly loaned Waka to the Nationals event in 2012. All those that took part in the event were most grateful. Sharing resources and working together is definitely a strength of our sport.

Last month thanks to our equipment suppliers we gave away 2 bouyancy vests donated by Day Two, a rescue tube and throw-bag combo donated by AquaSafe New Zealand Ltd and $50 Prezzy Card donated by New Zealand Post. This months prizes are supplied by Fergs Kayaks, Viper Va'a and New Zealand Post.

Waka Essential be at Birkenhead for the finish of Ace’s Race on Saturday. We will have a range of clothes and gear available to buy on the spot and will take orders onsite for anything you see that you might like.

To all kaihoe intending, attending our Long distance regatta. The venue for the start of the regatta is now Opononi Beach as the tide is heading into the harbour as oppose to heading out.

5 Aotearoa clubs including 14 paddlers from Rangaunu Sports Club from Awanui participated in the 2012 Gubbi Gubbi Junior Waka Ama Sprints in Mooloolaba, Australia in the first weekend of the school holidays Sept Oct 29th to Oct 2. The 3 day very relaxed event targetted junior paddlers under 12 to 19 years and was hosted at Lake Kawana. Two junior under 16 girls teams: Niwa Lakers and Niwa Girls were supported by two young men.

A group of Far North youngsters embarked on a waka journey from Cape Reinga to Whangarei as part of their mental and physical preparation for the upcoming waka ama championships in Rarotonga.
