The Mauao Ocean Hoe Series Race 1 (Saturday 2 October), hosted by Hoe Aroha Waka Ama, is going ahead. However there are some major changes to the event schedule, race times & strict covid restrictions. Please only attend for your race. Please read the full covid event information and updated pānui. We are excited to announce the following Rangatahi as our inaugural Te Reo Taiohi o Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa rōpū! We would like to send a mihi to the regions that connected us with the Rangatahi from within their rohe. Ngā mihi maioha ki a koutou ngā Rangatahi! Thank you for putting forward your name to be a part of Te Reo Taiohi o Nga Kaihoe o Aotearoa (Rangatahi Voice for Waka Ama NZ). On behalf of our Waka Ama NZ Board and CEO Lara Collins, we are excited about the formation of this rōpū and are looking forward to working with you. We are pleased to congratulate Joern Scherzer (Hoe Tonga Board Chair & PCKC Club Member) on being appointed to the International Va’a Federation Race Rule Committee. Joern has served on the Waka Ama NZ Race Rule Committee for over 10 years and took on the task of reformatting and re-organising the old Waka Ama NZ Race Rules document in 2010. Since then Joern has been involved as a member of the WANZ Race Rules review committee and has a thorough understanding of the race rules and their intent. Joern will be an asset to the IVF Race Rules committee and will provide a structured, fair & balanced overview of any race rule review process undertaken in the future by the IVF. We are looking forward to an exciting season and preparing for our 33rd Annual Sprint Nationals at Lake Karāpiro in January 2022. "It is with regret that we at Waitakere OCC must advise we are cancelling the Bridges Race on Saturday 9 October 2021. This was a signature event for our 30th year as a waka ama club but we have to recognise these are uncertain times due to Covid. We do intend to reschedule just as soon as we are able".

The Te Tauihu o Te Waka a Māui Secondary School Sprint Champs scheduled for 29th October 2021 has been cancelled due to covid restrictions and uncertainty. The event will return in 2022.
