IVF Va’a World Distance 2023 – Samoa

Aotearoa NZ National Age Group W6 Team and National V1 Selection Process


National team and V1 representation in age divisions will be determined at the 2023 Long Distance Nationals – held in April 2023 in Whitianga:

  • J16 Men & Women
  • Master 40 Men & Women
  • Master 50 Men & Women
  • Master 60 Men & Women
  • Master 70 Men & Women
  • Master 75 Men & Women
  • Master 80 Men & Women

Note: J19 and Premier V1 selections will also take place at Long Distance Nationals.

The winning club team/ V1 will win the entry as the New Zealand Representative for that age division and travel to compete at the IVF World Distance Champions in Samoa – August 2023

Age Division V6 teams and V1 paddlers are self-funded

Waka Ama New Zealand will:

  • Provide national age division teams with a racing uniform
  • Letter for each paddler in the team acknowledging national age group representation
  • Appoint an Area Co-ordination Team that will manage onsite racing logistics and any IVF management tasks or protests
  • Will facilitate a combined training camp for all teams representing New Zealand at the World Championship. (Costs will be outlined in advance of camp)
Policy:
  • Club teams trying to qualify for must submit an intent form (attached) by 1 April 2023. Intent fee/Entry fee is due along with intent form. $300 per paddler $1800 per team.
  • V1 paddlers do not have to submit intents
  • If on 1st April there is only 1 intent for an Age division, then that club team will qualify as the National representative team.
  • W6 Club teams trying to qualify for age group spots must compete at the Long Distance Nationals in a Moana Nui – Mahi Mahi W6. This is to ensure that qualification is done on as level a field as possible.
  • Should the winning team or V1 Paddler decline the position it will be offered to the next place team until the spot is filled.
  • Once selected for winning the 2023 Long Distance Nationals the Team and their Club will acknowledge that they are representing New Zealand and will agree to adhere to the Waka Ama New Zealand Code of Conduct and Travel code of conduct.
  • The winning club teams may change no more than two (2) paddlers from their teams unless those changes are discussed, justified and agreed to with the World Management Committee who will include for this purpose the National Premier Distance Coach of the relevant gender
  • Should more than 2 paddlers withdraw from a team, then the team will be withdrawn and the next place team at the 2023 Long Distance Nationals will be offered the spot
  • Age Division teams are self-funded
  • Clubs/teams must consult with Waka Ama New Zealand before submitting any funding or sponsorship applications or requests. Funding and sponsorship must not clash with any national sponsorships, and it must not contain Alcohol or tobacco advertising.
  • New Zealand Age Division teams must wear a national racing uniform provided by Waka Ama New Zealand
  • Paddlers cannot paddle in more than one age category unless the difference is in W6 and V1, i.e the paddler is in a W6 Master 40 team but wins the spot to be the V1 Master 50 representative
  • Premier paddlers cannot race in W6 Age category events at the World Championships
  • Clubs/Crews must confirm with proof by 1 June 2023 that they have paid deposits for travel to the World Distance Championship.
