Kaitūao Information - nearly full up!
Sprint Nationals cannot operate without the goodwill and manaakitanga of our waka ama whanau volunteering their time and smiles. We are often in need of more people who are keen, fit, and who have the ability to volunteer for at least a whole day at a time.
Loading Bay Kaitūao have the important role of caring for the waka, and ensuring the safety of the paddlers as they enter and exit for their races. This is a rewarding role, as you assist young taitamariki into a waka to race with their friends, and be on hand to congratulate all paddlers at the end of their race.
Volunteers are also important cogs in the Sprint Nationals machine in the areas of administration, results, marshalling, water safety, waste minimisation, and biosecurity. Kaitūao get the chance to experience first hand the mahi involved, and go away with new skills to assist their regions and clubs.
If you'd like to be involved, and go on a stand-by list for the event, please email [email protected]
CHECK, CLEAN, DRY Protocols
As per MPI regulations, all waka, hoe, life jackets, clothing and footwear will need to be Checked and Cleaned before leaving Lake Karāpiro, to ensure we do not spread the species to lakes and rivers around the mōtu. There will be dedicated wash stations set up for waka, ama and kiato in the loading bay area. Please ensure all paddlers comply with the volunteer’s directions to protect our roto and awa.
