The 9th annual Tauranga Harbour Challenge was held on the 2nd of April 2005 with perfect weather conditions. With over 550 paddlers competing on the course the competition was hot.
Nickolai Titov from Fire in Ice Outrigger Canoe Club in the South Island was on fire, completing the course in a time of 01:20:55, while Vance Winiata from Akarana won the master men division in a time of 01:25:09. Marie Allan of Mareikura took out the Open Women W1 followed closely by Debra Kingi of Waitakere Outrigger Canoe Club who won the Master Women W1 in a time of 01:44:53.
Team Goodyear PDLA is showing their dominance this year after winning the Hauraki Hoe for the 3rd time in a row, they now have 2 Harbour Challenges under their belt, can they pull it off for a 3rd time next year.
The Polynesian dancers, kapa haka and Concept 2 row off competition proved to be great entertainment for the paddlers while they ate their hangi meals.
Congratulations to the Tamaki Outrigger Canoe Club, for taking out the OC2 Club Prize. This was proudly sponsored by the Endeavour Charitable Trust and Moana Nui Canoes & Paddles.

Next year will be the 10th Anniversary of the Tauranga Harbour Challenge, and the planning is already underway. We have some new and exciting events being introduced for 2006, this will be the one you can't afford to miss.
