Worlds 2010 - Selections

Selections for World Sprints 2010 in New Caledonia

SENIORS
Senior W6 crews will all be national selections. We will not select on the basis of regional crews but it may happen that selected paddlers for a crew are from the same region.

All W1 NZ representatives will be selected from the 2010 Nationals.

Regions may form W12 crews (only) from paddlers who are not selected for W6 crews. W12 crews will also be formed from the National Selections but ALL W12 crews will have to attend the qualifying regatta and meet minimum time requirements.

Senior paddlers, intending to paddle in W6 crews, must attend water trials on the 2nd or 3rd May 2009 in Karapiro.
Water trials will comprise of:
* W1 (ruddered) 500m
* W1 (ruddered) 300m
* W6 individual paddle (with non-paddling steerer) of 300m

The trial cost, to be paid on the day, will be $20 - to cover the trial costs only.

All intending trialists must register their intent to trial (on line) by Tuesday 14 April. Check the website on Friday24 April to see whether you are scheduled to trial on Saturday 2nd or Sunday 3. However, if the weather is not good on the 2nd we will hope to run all trials on the 3rd. Please ensure that you check your email or text messages on May 1 in case we have had to postpone due to weather.

The number of paddlers selected from the May trials will depend on the availability of coaches and the potential number of medaling crew combinations.

Anyone interested in coaching must register their expression of interest by Friday 3 April. We encourage EVERYONE who has an interest in coaching, or being in a team of coaches, to apply. Paddlers will also be considered as coaches although they will still have to complete water trials and qualify as a paddler. Coaches will be appointed before the May water trials.

Managers will be appointed in consultation with the appointed coaches.

The location and number of training camps will depend on the availability and location of coaches.

Crews will participate in a qualifying regatta in November (confirmation date pending venue availability).

W6 and W12 crews must meet minimum time requirements. These times are yet to be set.

The Worlds quota will not be filled unless minimum time requirements are met.
If more than the quota number meet the minimum time requirements, selections will be based on the finishing order.

A Selection Process committee will be formed, before the May trials, to:
* Appoint coaches
* Give direction to the selection criteria
* Monitor the fairness of paddler and crew selections
* Set the minimum time requirements for crews
* Undertake any other selection related tasks requested by NKOA

JUNIORS
Junior crews will be selected regionally.

The Junior selection processes will be decided on by the regional bodies.

The Regions will be required to notify NKOA by April if they will have a Junior programme and for which Divisions.

All regions must include in their Process a means by which Juniors, living in regions that do not have programmes for their Division, can trial for crews.

However, any such trialists must be able to meet minimum training expectations set by regions.

Therefore, Junior crew selections should NOT be finalised before April (by which time it should be known which regions, if any, do not have Junior programmes).

All W1 NZ representatives will be selected from the 2010 Nationals
