Te Puku o Te Ika Worlds Campaign for Junior selections.

Welcome to the first panui for the TPOTI Juniors campaign towards the World Waka Ama Sprints being held in Noumea, New Caledonia, May 2010.

COACHES CONFIRMED
Congratulations to the following successful candidates who will be the TPOTI Head Coaches:

Howard Hyland - J19 Women
Fred Whata - J19 Men
Raanj Rapana - J16 Men
Hoturoa Kerr - J16 Women

Squad Managers have yet to be confirmed and announced.

TRIALS
• Trial 1 will be held on Saturday 16th May at Lake Rotoma.
• Trial 2 will be held on Saturday 20th June at Lake Rotoma.
• Registrations and weighing will start at 8am.
• Trials will start at 9am.

Format
W1
1. Ruddered
2. Any type of W1 Waka Ama can be used.
3. Must weigh 16kgs minimum.
4. Hull will be weighed on the day.
5. Weights provided on the day.
6. Number holders are required on the day. Provide your own.
7. 2 x 500m (Back-to-back: Race first 500m trial. Turn around, race second 500m trial)
W2
1. 4 x W2 will be provided – All Surfriggers.
2. Hull will be weighed on the day.
3. Experienced and confident Steerers to be used.
4. Steerer must be under 70kgs.
5. Steerer weighed on the day.
6. 1 x 300m trial.

W6
1. 4 or 6 Waka – All Mahimahi.
2. Steerer must be under 70kgs.
3. Steerer weighed on the day.
4. 1 x 300m trial.


COURSE
1. 4 or 6 lanes will be used and marked by 2 start buoys and 2 finish buoys. There will be no lane buoys.
2. Timkeepers will record places and times against issued Waka numbers.
3. Water, wind and weather conditions will be noted.
4. Safety boat on course.

COST
1. 20.00 per paddler per trial.
2. Paid at registration on the day.
3. Receipts on the day.
4. Will be used to off-set any hire or koha costs for Trial resources.

VOLUNTEER RESOURCES
Volunteers will be sought for the following:
1. Start Line.
2. Race Starter.
3. Timekeepers – One per Lane – Must be competent and confident.
4. Steerers – Must be under 70kgs.
5. We would require the same Timekeepers and Steerers for Trial 2.

INTENT TO PADDLE APPLICATION
1. Any junior paddler intending to trial or paddle at the Worlds Waka Ama Sprints in 2010, MUST FILL out an application form. (Attached)
