The Ace Cuthers Memorial Club Spirit Award 2021 for performance on and off the water throughout the entire week was presented to Tu Tangi Ora – Waka Ama Inc. As a club they embodied the values of Waka Ama throughout the event; Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga, Hauora, Tū Tangata. A true reflection of all working together as one. Te Karu o Te Ika Race has been cancelled. Hosted by Wairarapa Waka Ama and scheduled for 22 and 23 January, the event has been cancelled due to lake closure. All entries for this event are now void. The event looks to return later in the year!

In May 2020, the New Zealand Government announced funding in the form of a Recovery Package to assist play, active recreation, and sport organisations to deal with the impacts of COVID-19. Sport NZ has formulated an approach to assist a group of National Partners to make the best use of the Recovery Package, which includes a National Partner Strengthen and Adapt Programme. Waka Ama NZ has been chosen by Sport NZ to be part of this programme because of the impact our strategy is having on the physical activity outcomes of New Zealanders.

Due to the cancellation of the 2022 Te Wānanga o Aotearoa Waka Ama Sprint Nationals, Waka Ama NZ will host this event at Lake Karāpiro for Club Teams and V1 paddlers to qualify. This event will also be open to those World Club Sprint Teams (already confirmed as qualified) and Elite Squads heading to London in August.
