All Stories
The series involved our local clubs located here in Rotorua, who helped put the series together for all those keen paddlers out there.
We were joined by Hei Matau Paddlers, Ruamata and Te Arawa Paddlers Inc, who all enjoyed the experience of hosting a race, but somehow Te Au Rere ended up with the rain and choppy conditions in the last race!
That did not stop any of our hardy paddlers from seeing the last race of the series out in style.
A special mention to the teams who travelled long distances, such as the Waitakere crews who turned up every month, the Gisborne crowd and a couple of crews from over Napier way. We hope you enjoyed yourselves here. And of course, all our local teams from within Te Puke o Te Ika, who competed with no mercy !!
A huge thanks to the following people:
- Te Waiariki Purea Trust for their on-going support on and off the water.
- The Rotorua Volunteer Coastguard for their commitment to help keeping us safe on the water.
- Te Wananga o Aotearoa for the use of the waka during the series.
- All the volunteers/helpers/parents from all the clubs, for all the work they do to help make the series what it is.
- The Paddlers: Without you the series will not happen – the biggest thanks to you!
- Hei Matau: Thanks to Troy and Team Goodyear for their awesome spot prizes
- Te Au Rere: Thanks especially to Carol Turner for her beautiful spot prizes
- Ruamata: For their spot prizes at the Rotoiti Race.
- Trophies donated by Te Kahui Hauora Trust and the Thomas Whanau
We hope you have enjoyed this series and that you continue to pursue your paddling.
Please join us next year for another round of great paddling, competition and whanau time.
The results are also attached. Trophies and Certificates went to teams and individuals that qualified, i.e. Competed in 3 races and have a minimum of 3 regular paddlers in each race. Where there were equal placings, the decision was placed on number of races attended, and then fastest time on the day. With that, there were 2 changes in placings in 2 categories and Team Managers have been advised.
See you in 2008 !!
