Waka Ama NZ is proud to establish Te Rōpū Whaikaha o Ngā Kaihoe o Aotearoa (Waka Ama NZ Disability Working Group) for our Waka Ama whānau. Te Rōpū Whaikaha will be a working group providing a voice for tāngata whaikaha (people with disabilities) who are involved in waka ama in Aotearoa. This working group, alongside Waka Ama NZ, will assist in increasing the access to, and participation in, waka ama for tāngata whaikaha in Aotearoa.

The Waka Ama NZ Aukaha Project Plan will be implemented over the next 3-5 years with the support of Sport NZ. The Aukaha Project aims to strengthen the capability and capacity of Waka Ama at a Regional and local level so that our sport can continue to grow, thrive and adapt. Aukaha can mean many things, for the purpose of this kaupapa we have identified Aukaha as the lashing – binding our sport. Check out more about our Aukaha Project process!

As you may be aware, the new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 was passed into law last year. The new legislation modernises the rules governing New Zealand’s incorporated societies for the first time since 1908. The plan is for Waka Ama NZ to roll out an approach that will help all of our clubs collectively to work through these changes and we will provide as much support as possible.

"The temperatures will be warm and the water is divine", say the hosts; and invite novice or seasoned kaihoe to attend this V1 and W6 distance event to enter now.

2) On the same Saturday (October 21st), but in the majestic scenery of Fiordland, Oraka Aparima Waka Ama are hosting their annual Ki Uta Ki Tai Waka Challenge, on Lake Te Anau. With on-shore activities and kai available; a 500m event for Juniors (J16, J19) and a 10km/15km for adults; everyone is catered for at this whanau friendly W6 event.
