The 2024 event saw many challenges as we had to change the race course to in the harbour for the first time in the 16 year history. Changing from 32km on the ocean to 12km x2 didn't appeal to many with almost 40 paddlers entered choosing not to compete. But it turned out to be one of the best events we've had with a guaranteed downhill run providing fun and also making some challenges for many paddlers. The first run was against the tide making the waves stand up and this kept the racing close. Paddlers were going wave for wave. I've never heard so much cheering during a race. Race 2 everyone now knew where to go. But this time there was less tide. More water and more wind. So races lines were still hard to pick for paddlers. People were able to see who they were behind in the first race and then know that they have to beat them by more in the second one. It got very tactical. Congratulations to our divisional and overall winners. Tupuria King Narada Bury Matt Walsh Jessica Mcduff Te Rina Leuburt Jaz Stevenson It was great to see a whole new podium in the women's division showing a bit of a change of guard. Thanks to all that trusted our decision to change course and made racing enjoyable. Our amazing sponsors. We have the best prize table around.
